Caerleon Sports MBA Roundup - Week 1

As the new season starts properly with the opening games of the Carruthers shield I am delighted to announce that my weekly report will be sponsored by Caerleon Sports this year. We are indebted to Jeff for his support and I am sure you can get anything you need to play bowls at Jeff’s shop in Caerleon. Thank you Jeff.

To the bowls, the larger groups of the Carruthers got underway today and group 17 started at Whiteheads where visitors Llanhilleth secured a 21 shot victory to head the group at this early stage. A tighter battle at Newbridge where visiting Blaina won by nine shots to tuck in behind Llanhilleth.
Group 18 saw a big win for Rhymney Gwent over Brynmawr to top the section at this early stage and neighbours Rhymney Royal sit second after a very good win at Abertillery by 10 shots.

Group 19 see Abergavenny top after a comfortable win at Pontyfelin with Bedwas in second place after beating St. Julians at home.
There has been some early action in the leagues with some clubs rearranging fixtures and it all started last week in MBA1 at Rhymney Gwent where the home team narrowly took the spoils by five shots and ten points to four against Croesyceiliog. More action in this division this week saw Blackwood beat Pontymister Athletic, twelve – two, to sit top of the table while Chepstow also recorded a win by ten points to four at Machen.
An early game in GBL1 saw Croesyceiliog win, eight – four, at Crickhowell.

In GBL2 there was a win for new boys Monmouth by ten points to two at Caldicot. There was also a scheduled game at Chepstow who were to play Beechwood in their first ever GBL match but I haven’t heard from either club yet so not sure what happened there.

Quick reminder that there is no issue with clubs rearranging matches but I would like to know when this is done in advance please so that I can update the website and also get the results in that I am expecting. Also every team must send in a result, do not expect your opponents to do it, this verifies the result for me and makes it easier to update the tables and results pages. The preferred method of sending results is still via the link and if anyone wants it just email me.

Enjoy your season everyone, lets hope we get it all back to near normal this year.
