Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 14


MBA Cup
Friday saw the final of the MBA Cup between St Julians and RTB Ebbw Vale take place at Caerleon, with the host club once again providing great weather and hospitality.
St Julians were quick out the block establishing a 7-0 lead after the 1st end but by the 5th end, RTB had tued the game to lead by 10. Shots were traded over the next few ends across the green and at 10 ends, RTB lead by 11. The next few ends saw the game edge more in favour of RTB and by the 15 end, they had extended their lead to 24 shots, something they would not relinquish in the remaining ends, finally running out winner by 23 shots, 76-53.
Congratulations to RTB Ebbw Vale on defending the county cup.

MBA Division 1
Crosskeys extended their unbeaten season and the gap at the top following a 12-2 win against Bedwas in the 1st of 2 games between the clubs this week. Cwmbran continue their pursuit with a 10-4 win against Blackwood to put some distance between themselves and 3rd spot.

MBA Division 2
Newbridge hold on top spot with the narrowest of wins over Pontypool Park Girlings, picking up a valuable 10 points. Rhymney Royal are hot on their heels following their 14-0 win over Abergavenny. Pontnewydd hold onto 3rd with a big win (14-0) at home to Machen whilst Caldicot rise a place to 4th following a 10-4 win over Rhymney Gwent.

MBA Division 3
No movement in the table but Maximum Point wins for St Julian and Blaenavon sees them maintain their push for promotion. Blaina edged Llanhilleth in the West Mon derby by a single shot to hold onto 3rd place.

MBA Division 4
Another 11 points for Ynysddu sees them extend their lead at the top. Panteg Park rise to 3rd following their 12-2 win at Oakdale. Aberca and Bedwellty park was postponed due to the weather.

MBA Division 5
A 9th straight win for Pontymister Welfare (12-2 over Newport Athletic) sees them hold on at the top but following 2 wins this week for Caerleon (14-0 over Crickhowell and 10-4 over Whiteheads) their lead is cut to 6 points. Gadiffaith picked up 10 points at Pontyfelin.

GBL Division 1
Pontymister Athletic open up space at the top following their 14-0 win over Newbridge. Croesyceiliog lose ground on the leaders as Bedwas take the spoils in their game with an 8-4 win.

GBL Division 2
Blaina (10-2 over Blackwood) and Beechwood (11-1 at Bedwellty Park) both move up a place in the division following their wins as the other matches in the division fall foul of the weather.

GBL Division 3
Croesyceiliog close the gap at the top to 4 points following a 10-0 win Whiteheads as the leaders St Julian's go down 10-0 at Beaufort.
