Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 15

WBA Carruthers Shield
The semi finals of the WBA Carruthers Shield took place at Llandrindod Wells with 2 Monmouthshire sides, RTB Ebbw Vale and Blaenavon looking to make it to the final and make it an all Monmouthshire final.
In the 1st semi final, Blaenavon came up against Penylan and for a large percentage of the game there were only a handful of shots in the game. Unfortunately Penylan upped their game in the closing stages to run out winners by 14 shots.
On the bottom green, RTB Ebbw Vale entertained Harlequins in a repeat of last year's semi final. RTB started slowly with little between the teams but gathered momentum as the game progressed and eventually ran out winners by 26 shots.
The final saw a repeat of the 2018 final, with RTB looking to tu the result of that day and make it 3 titles in a row. A slow start for RTB saw them trail by a few shots after 5 ends but some big ends across the green followed to see RTB lead by 15 at the half way stage. Penylan showed their fighting spirit in the following ends, reducing the defect to just 6 shots at 15 ends but in true RTB fashion, they were determined not to let any lead slip and broke away again to win by 17 shots, 81-64.

Congratulations to RTB Ebbw Vale on winning the Carruthers Shield for a 3rd Consecutive Year, an amazing achievement.
