W.B.A. Week 1 and G.B.L. Round up

Section 17

Cwmbran take the initiative in section 17 with a win at Panteg House, with a home game to come against Garndiffaith, they look good to qualify for the knockout stages.

Section 18

Wins for Blackwood and New Tredegar in the opening games makes next weeks match between the two clubs a virtual group decider.

Section 19

Bedwellty Park and Caerleon both recorded away wins to give themselves the advantage in this group and the group could be decided next week when the two sides meet.

Section 20

Both Pontymister clubs won their opening games here and could well decide the group when they play each other next week.

Section 21

RTB and Crosskeys both recorded wins and this group could be decided when these clubs meet in a fortnight, although I might expect Bedwas to still have a say in the outcome.

Section 22

Machen and Newbridge both recorded wins to put themselves in the driving seat and could decide this group when they meet in two weeks although Machen have a trip to Beaufort before then and maybe the group could be decided on shots if the home side prevail.

Section 23

Impressive win by Ynysddu at Caldicot in an earlier game see them head the table from Newport Athletic who edged out Six Bells in a tight game.

Section 24

Brynmawr and Llanwern both notched up wins to head this section. They meet in two weeks in what could turn out to be a group decider.

Section 25

Abertillery and St Julians both hit the ton on opening day of the Welsh and this makes the game between these two at Abertillery Park a virtual decider.

Section 26

Rhymney Gwent recorded a victory at Ebbw Vale and victory at home to Chepstow next week would be enough to qualify.

Section 27

Blaenavon opened the group with a win and it looks as if this group might well be decided when they play at Abergavenny in a fortnight.

Section 28

First blood to Blaina with victory over Pontnewydd and a game with pontyfelin to come.

G.B.L. Division 1

Pontymister Athletic, RTB and Abercarn all recorded victories to keep the pressure on early leaders Beaufort who enjoyed a friendly at Ynysddu.

G.B.L. Division 2

Bedwellty Park and Pontymister Welfare both won to close the gap on leaders Newbridge.

Please note that Carruthers Shield matches are recorded as WBA results and not cup matches, thanks.
