Weekly Roundup by M.B.A. League Secretary Peter Williams

M.B.A. Division 1

R.T.B. Ebbw Vale have almost clinched the title after beating Cwmbran and Beaufort losing at Pontymister. Chepstow and Cwmbran look likely to go down as they both have tough fixtures to come, although it is possible to climb above Pontymister.

M.B.A. Division 2

Abertillery and Blackwood both return to division 1 next year but not had Blackwood result which would decide which of the two are champions. Spirited wins for Abergavenny, Rhymney Gwent and Bedwellty give all three a chance of avoiding the drop with two massive games next week deciding the issue. Rhymney Gwent play Croesyceiliog and then the match most likely to decide it Abergavenny play Bedwellty where the losing side will most like go down with Caldicot.

M.B.A. Division 3

Looks like a fantastic game at Rhymney Royal with the home side fighting to avoid the drop and visitors Blaina looking to win the title, it finished 72-73 to Blaina who are promoted and need 8 points from their last game to be champions, Pontypool Park Girlings occupy the second spot but having finished their matches they can be displaced by Brynmawr if they can get seven points from their last match. A fine win for Blaenavon ensures another term in this division next year and condemns Rhymney Royal and Caerleon to division 4.

M.B.A. Division 4

St Julians are champions and could be joined in division 3 by Pontnewydd unless Llanhilleth can rattle up two wins in their outstanding matches to pip them. Abercarn are relegated following their defeat at Llanwern who still need a point in their last game to avoid joining them, a point would then send Panteg House down.

M.B.A. Division 5

Whiteheads and Ebbw Vale Welfare both won to seal promotion with Monmouth relegated. Panteg Park continued their revival winning at Firbank.

M.B.A. Division 6

Ynysddu sealed their position as champions with victory over second place Gilwern, but the four points Gilwern got from the match was enough to join Ynysddu in division 5 next year.

G.B.L. Division 1

Beaufort continued their fine season winning a close game at Bailey Park while Abercarn, Caldicot and Crickhowell had much needed wins.

G.B.L. Division 2

Croesyceiliog won to ensure they are promoted with Newbridge. It would appear that no one wants to play Bedwellty Park this year as they had yet another opponent cancel their fixture yesterday, understandable frustration from the club as we all need the revenue generated from the matches to help cover green maintenance costs.
