Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 3


Carruthers Shield - MBA Round 1
This week saw a break for the majority of the leagues with the beginning of the Carruthers shield campaign for 20 teams and 10 first round matches being played on a sundrenched day across the county.

Crosskeys continued on from their winning start in leagues with a comfortable win away at Panteg House whilst Caldicot travelled down the M4 to record a win at Whiteheads. Cwmbran Park overcame Rhymney Royal by 3 shots in a thrilling match, with the home team (Rhymney) leading for much of the match, only to be pipped on the final end of the match. Comfortable wins for Blaina, Blackwood, Ynysddu and Pontymister Athletic see them all book their place in the 2nd Round next week. RTB Ebbw Vale started their pursuit of a record breaking 4th consecutive title with a big win at Abergavenny. Beaufort edged out New Tredegar by 4 shots whilst Bedwellty Park also made it through to the next round with a home win against Pontnewydd.

MBA Division 5
Another big win and maximum points for Aberca against Crickhowell sees them maintain top spot as the early pace setters in the division. A first win of the season for Six Bells sees them pick up 12 points at Gilwe and rise to 5th in the table.

GBL Division 1
Monmouth maintain their 100% record and top spot with a narrow 9-3 win against Bedwas. Newbridge rise to 2nd with a 10-2 win over newely promoted Crosskeys. Still awaiting the result of the Pontymister Athletic and Caldicot encounter.

GBL Division 2
RTB Ebbw Vale hold onto top spot by shot count following a 10-2 win over Bedwellty park. Blackwood sit on the same points after a maximum point win at home to Blaina. Aberca (10-2 vs Pontymister Welfare) and and Beechwood (12-0 vs Whiteheads) also recorded victories and now sit 3rd and 4th in the table.

WLB Senior Trial
