Inter Association
Friday saw the final round of the Inter Association take place and with West Mon. having already wrapped up the title, they made it 5 from 5 as they saw off Rhymney & Sirhowy 27 shot win (16-6) at RTB Ebbw Vale. At Crosskeys, South Mon. also finished off with a win as they took 20 of the 22 points on offer against East Mon. Newport & District finalised the top 3 of this years Inter Association, as came away with a narrow 6 shot win against Easte Valley at Gadiffaith.
Carruthers Shield - 3rd Round
The Quarter Finals of the Carruthers Shield took place with RTB Ebbw Vale and Bedwas & Trethomas looking to book their place in the semi-final with another all Monmouthshire encounter in this years competition. At the 5 end stage Bedwas held a narrow 3 shot lead but by the 8th end RTB had tued it around and led by 16 shots. As the game progressed RTB increased their lead to 30 shots at one stage but a strong end across the board saw them half the deficit in a single end to keep the game in the balance. In the closing stage, RTB maintained the lead they had held for much of the game and ended up winners by 14 shots. They now progress to the semi finals at Llandrindod Wells where they will face either Tenby, Graig Merthyr or Harlequins.
The draw for the semi-finals will be made at 9.00am on Saturday 9th August.
MBA Division 1
With Bedwas & RTB both in Carruthers action, only 2 games took place on Saturday. It was the visitors of both games who came away with wins, as Pontymister Athletic travelled to Cwmbran Park and retued with a 12-2 victory whilst Croesyceiliog also secured at 12-2 win at St. Julians. Sunday afteoon saw Crosskeys move to the top of the table as secured a narrow 11-3 win at RTB Ebbw Vale.
MBA Division 2
Ynysddu continue to set the pace in Division 2 with their 9th Consecutive win, this time a 12-2 win at home to Pontypool Park Girlings. Blaina moved up into 3rd spot as they took all 14 points off Blaenavon whilst Rhymney Gwent also secured maximum points at home to Newbridge and move out of the drop zone.
MBA Division 3
The top 3 in the division remain unchanged as leaders Bedwellty Park extended their lead at the top with maximum points away to 2nd place Pontnewydd. Panteg House sit 2 points off the 2nd promotion spot after a 12-2 win at Machen whilst Llanhilleth move up into 4th place with a 14-0 win at Abergavenny. Beechwood move up 1 place with a 12-2 win at Chepstow.
MBA Division 4
New Tredegar move to the top of the table with a 13-1 home win over Beaufort as previous leaders Abertillery fell to a 12-2 defeat at Oakdale. Aberca remain in 3rd place following a 12-2 win at home to Panteg Park.
MBA Division 5
Six Bells are the division leaders again as they came through a tight encounter (10-4) at Caerleon whilst Newport Athletic drop to 2nd place as Gilwe recorded an 11-3 win over them. Gadiffaith occupy the 3rd promotion spot following a 12-2 win over PILCS whist Crickhowell (12-2 vs Oakdale Welfare) and Pontymister Welfare (10-4 at Belle Vue) also move up in the table to occupy 4th and 5th respectively.
GBL 3 Rink - Division 1
A 10-2 win for RTB Ebbw Vale at Monmouth sees them retu to the top of the table whilst Caldicot record their first win of the season with a 9-3 win at Pontymister Athletic. Sunday saw Croesyceiliog secure an 8-4 win at Blackwood, with only 2 shots separating the sides.
GBL 3 Rink - Division 2
Maximum points for Bedwellty Park (vs Chepstow) sees them maintain the top spot in the division. Newbridge move up to 2nd with a 10-2 win against Aberca whilst Pontymister Welfare recorded their first win of the season at Beechwood, picking up 10 points in the process.
GBL 2 Rink - Division 1
No movement in the table despite 2 matches taking place. Croesyceiliog came away a 10-0 win at Ynysddu. The Beaufort and Cwmbran Park game ended level, with both teams taking 5 points.
GBL 2 Rink - Division 2
A double header in the week saw Oakdale and Pontymister Athletic play each other on the same night, with the home team recording maximum points in both matches. To the weekend, Panteg House remained top with a 10-0 in at Oakdale whilst Caldicot remain 2nd with an 8-2 win at Blackwood. Panteg Park are 5 points further back in the standings following their 8-2 win at Pontymister Athletic.
