Caerleon Sports Weekly Roundup - Week 12


A very disrupted weekend of bowls with numerous games being postponed as a result of high temperatures across the county. There was much talk on and off the green about the Extreme Heat Waing issues by our Secretary and Safeguarding Officer. In the ever changing weather systems we are now experiencing, and whether you agree or disagree with the waing being issued, they took a pro-active approach in regards to the health and wellbeing of our members both young and old.
 

MBA Cup

The semi finals of the MBA Cup took place on Friday with the remaining 4 sides looking to book their place in the final at Beaufort on 1st August. At Oakdale, It was RTB Ebbw Vale who came away with a 24 shot win against Pontymister Athletic whilst at Newbridge, Blackwood proved too strong for Panteg House and came away with a 35 shot win to progress to the final.
 

MBA Division 1

With the Crosskeys and Blackwood game postponed, Bedwas took the opportunity to close the gap at the top as they recorded a commanding 12-2 win at home to St. Julians. At bottom end of the division, Pontymister Athletic took all 14 points off RTB Ebbw Vale to move 1 one place whilst Cwmbran Park travelled to Croesyceiliog and came away with a 12-2 win.
 

MBA Division 2

Friday evening saw Ynysddu continue their winning streak to 8 games as they won 12-2 at home to Rhymney Gwent. The Gwent bounced back on Saturday as they recorded a 12-2 win at home to Blaenavon whilst Caldicot came away with a narrow 6 shot win at Pontypool Park Girlings, picking up 10 points in the process. Newbridge and Ynysddu was postponed. Sunday saw Blaina a 12-2 win for Blaina at home to Rhymney Royal.
 

MBA Division 3

All games postponed.
 

MBA Division 4

With 2 of the 4 games postponed, the top 2 in the division took the opportunity to put some space between them and the teams below. Abertillery continued their run with a 12-2 win at Aberca to remain top, whilst New Tredegar recorded a 13-1 win at home to Panteg Park to remain only 2 points behind them in the standings.
 

MBA Division 5

Another division heavily affected by postponments with a only one match being played. In what was no doubt a nail biting finish, Oakdale Welfare edged out Caerleon by a single shot, picking up 10 points and moving into the 3rd promotion spot.
 
 

GBL 3 Rink - Division 1

Blackwood moved up 1 place in the standing as recorded a maximum 12 points at home to RTB Ebbw Vale.
 

GBL 3 Rink - Division 2

All games postponed.
 

GBL 2 Rink - Division 1

Cwmbran Park moved up into 3rd place as they took all 10 points at home to Pontypool Park Girlings.
 

GBL 2 Rink - Division 2

With New Tredegar and Blackwood the only game played, it was the home side who took the spoils as they recorded a 9-1 win.
