MBA Cup
Friday evening saw Croesyceiliog book their place in the MBA Cup final as they overcame local rivals Pontnewydd at Cwmbran Park 70-60. Blaina saw off Chepstow in their rearranged Quarter Final and will now face Crosskeys in the 2nd Semi Final on Thursday 16th July at New Tredegar.
My thanks goes to both Cwmbran and New Tredegar for agreeing to host both semi finals.
MBA Division 1
Saturday saw Bedwas temporarily take over at the top of the division as they won 12-2 at Blackwood whilst St. Julian's moved off the bottom of the table with a 12-2 win at Ynysddu. Crosskeys retued to the top of the table on Sunday as they won the top of the table clash at Bedwas 12-2. Blaina continue to push and sit 5 points off the top as they collected a maximum 14 points off Blackwood.
MBA Division 2
RTB Ebbw Vale extended their lead at the top to 10 points as the won 12-2 at Newbridge whilst 2nd place Bedwellty Park lost ground with 10-4 loss at home to Blaenavon, with the visitors moving upto 4th place. Cwmbran Park remain 6th following a narrow 2 shot, 10-4 win over Pontnewydd and Rhymney Gwent won the bottom of the table clash against Caldicot comfortably, securing all 14 points on offer.
MBA Division 3
A 10-4 win for New Tredegar against Rhymney Royal saw them take over as division leaders on Saturday evening. Chepstow moved top on Sunday following their 20 points over the weekend ( 14-0 Vs Pontypool Park and an 8-6 defeat at Rhymney Royal on the Sunday ). The win for the Royal on Sunday sees them rise to 3rd in the table only 4 points off the top. Back to Saturday, Abertillery move to 5th in the standings with a 12-2 win at Beechwood whilst Llanhilleth move off the bottom of the table with a 12-2 win over Panteg House.
MBA Division 4
Leaders Aberca retued to action following a week off and came away with a 12-2 win at Six Bells. Oakdale remain hot on their heels as they also won 12-2 at Newport Athletic whilst Beaufort secured a comfortable 12-2 win at home to Abergavenny. Crickhowell and Machen was postponed due to heat conces.
MBA Division 5
Firbank fells to a 13-1 defeat home to Caerleon but remain top following the postponment of the Whiteheads and Caerleon match due to the heat. Oakdale Welfare rise to 3rd in the standings with a big 14-0 win over PILCS whist Gadiffaith move off the bottom of the table with a 10-4 win over Gilwe.
3 Rink GBL - Division 1
A 10-2 win for Crosskeys at home to Bedwellty Park sees them remain top but Croesyceiliog shaved 2 points off their lead at the top to 10 points with 2 games in hand following their 12-0 win against RTB Ebbw Vale. Blackwood remain 3rd follwing a narrow 10-2 win at Monmouth, winning by 3 shots whilst Pontymister Athletic sit a further 4 point back in 4th place following their 10-2 win over Newbridge.
3 Rink GBL - Division 2
Chepstow remain top despite their 8-2 loss on Sunday to 2nd place Ynysddu who bounced back following their defeat to Caldicot (2-10) on the Saturday. Bedwas close the gap with the top 2 with a 10-2 win against Aberca whilst Cwmbran move into 4th with a 3 shot, 10-2 win at Blaina.
2 Rink GBL - Division 1
A narrow 3 shot victory for Bailey Park at Panteg House (8-2) sees them open up a 10 point lead at the top of Division 1. In an even close game, New Tredegar edged out Croesyceiliog by just 2 shots (8-2) and move up into 4th place.
2 Rink GBL - Division 2
Panteg Parks winning streak finally came to an end as they fell to their first defeat of the season in a 4 shot defeat to Oakdale (2-8). Crickhowell rose to 3rd following a 10-0 win over Abertillery whilst Pontymister Welfare edged out Bedwellty Park by a single shot to win their 6th consecutive match of the season. Sunday saw the battle of the top 2, with 2nd place Pontymister Welfare taking victory by 9 shots but having earlier cancelled the game in the season, they were only playing for the rink points ( 6 match points awarded to Panteg Park, remaining 4 points were shared 2 each )
