Weekly Match Report from M.B.A. League Secretary


M.B.A. Division 1
RTB suffered their first league defeat of the season in midweek at Blackwood 10-4 but bounced back on Saturday to defeat second place Bedwas 14-0 to virtually seal the title again. Crosskeys still buoyant from their cup success the night before continued to celebrate by beating Machen 12-2. Chepstow beat Beaufort 12-2 confirming that Beaufort will be competing in the second division next season and Pontymister beat Abertillery 10-4 almost ensuring that Abertillery will be joining Beaufort in division two. Machen bounced back yesterday with a 12-2 win against Chepstow.

M.B.A. Division 2
Still pretty tight at the top of this league with Rhymney Gwent still top after beating neighbours Bedwellty Park 14-0 followed by Croesyceiliog who lost at Abergavenny 12-2 on Saturday but bounced back with a 12-2 victory at Blaina yesterday. Brynmawr are still in the mix after a 10-4 win at Caldicot and the dark horses could still be Cwmbran who beat Newbridge 9-5.

M.B.A. Division 3
Six Bells had a busy week with three fixtures in this division, they started with a one shot defeat at St. Julians 10-4 followed by a 12-2 win over New Tredegar and then a home defeat to Llanhilleth 8-6. There must have been a large margin on the one rink because Llanhilleth won by 26 shots but lost on three rinks. With leaders Pontnewydd having a bye this week there was a chance for the chasing pack to close in. Rhymney Royal who were second lost 12-2 at St Julians and now slip to third after Pontypool Park Girlings beat Blaenavon 10-4 to move into second. After a home defeat 10-4 to New Tredegar, Caerleon will be playing in division 4 next term.

M.B.A. Division42
With leaders Firbank not playing they were overtaken at the top by new leaders Abercarn who beat Pontymister Welfare 12-2 and Panteg House who won 10-4 at Oakdale. Whiteheads won 12-2 at Ebbw Vale Welfare.

M.B.A. Division 5
Ynysddu with an 11-3 win over Standard maintain a slender lead over Panteg Park who had a 10-4 win over Gilwern. Newport Athletic stay third after a 12-2 win at Monmouth.

G.B.L. Division 1
Croesyceiliog stay top after a home defeat on Saturday 10-2 to Caldicot they had a big 12-0 win over Bedwas yesterday to show their pedigree as potential champions. Crickhowell are now second after a 10-2 win over Chepstow. Bedwas had hoped to be in pole position after beating Abercarn on Saturday 10-2 before that defeat at Croesyceiliog on Sunday. RTB picked up a 10-2 win at Newbridge.

G.B.L. Division 2
Pontymister Welfare stay top after a 10-2 win against Pontypool Park Girlings with Blaina in second after winning 12-0 against Belle Vue. Bailey Park are third after winning the local.
