Carruthers Shield successful for RTB Ebbw Vale


A huge congratulations to RTB Ebbw Vale on their recent success and bringing back the Carruthers Shield to Monmouthshire.

With both semi finals and finals being played in the traditional manner on a single day at Llandrindod Wells B.C, RTB began their pursuit of the title against Harlequins.

Semi Final - Harlequins
The rink of Steve Harris began well leading 10-1 after 5 ends and was the difference across the board as they lead 23-14 in the early stages. At this point RTB began to step up a gear and pile on the shots. By 10 ends their lead had increased to 26 shots and 32 shots at 15 ends, with the rinks of Steve Harris and Lee Thomas conformable leading 21-9 and 26-6 respectively. With impressive leads of 2 rinks and the remaining 2 rinks caught in closely contested games, Harlequins conceded the game with a number of ends remaining. RTB eventually running out with an impressive 36 shot win, 89-53.

Final - Merthyr West End
Merthyr West End awaited RTB in the final following their 14 shot, 81-65 win against Presteigne.
The match began with shots being traded evenly and at 5 ends, RTB leading by 4 shots. By 10 ends Merthyr West had turned the lead of 4 shots in their favour and the final was still tightly poised at 30-34. Once again, RTB stepped up a gear and by 15 ends they had turned the final in their favour leading 59-44, with the rink of Richard Underwood recovering from 4-14 to draw level at 15-15. They maintained this lead into the closing stages ( increasing their leading to 22 at 18 ends, 76-54 ) and despite a late surge by Merthyr, they ended winning by 12 shots, 80-68, to win the title for the 4th time.
