Caerleon Sports Round Up - Week 4


MBA Cup - 1st Round
The MBA Cup got in underway with 5 first round matches taking place. The heavyweight match of the round saw RTB defeat Crosskeys by 15 in a high quality game played on an excellent surface. In another all Division 1 clash, Blackwood won at Cwmbran by 20, whilst Llanhilleth won away at Oakdale by 11. In the closest match of the round New Tredegar defeated Blaenavon by 3 shots in the 1st of 2 matches between the clubs ahead of their WBA encounter on Saturday. Unfortunately Newport Athletic were unable to field a side, which sees Panteg House progress to Round 2.

The draw for the 2nd Round will take place after the County Championship match on Sunday.

WBA - 3rd Round
In the final 3 matches for teams to qualify, Rhymney Royal overpowered last years Division 1 Champions Bedwas, winning by an impressive 42 shots. Blaenavon gained revenge on their defeat the previous evening against New Tredegar winning by 36 and Crosskeys won away at Machen by 35.

Congratulations to the 7 teams (RTB, Beaufort, Rhymney Gwent, Blaina, Crosskeys, Blaenavon and Rhymney Royal) who now progress to the last 32 of the Carruthers and will played on 10th June in the open draw.

MBA Division 1
The top flight got underway with a few alterations due to Carruthers games being played. Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran and Chepstow all started their campaigns with 10-4 wins over their respective opponents. (Blackwood, Pontymister Athletic and RTB)

MBA Division 2
Carruthers game also affected Division 2 fully getting underway with only 2 games being played. Abergavenny lead the way with a 14-0 win away at Pontnewydd followed by Caldicot who picked up 12 points at home to Newbridge.

MBA Division 3

Llanhilleth lead the division after maximum points away to Brynmawr. There were also 12-2 home wins for both Abertillery and Blaina.

MBA Division 4
Ynysddu top the divivion after a 12-2 win at home to Oakdale. Bedwellty start their campaign with a big win and maximum point victory at home to Six Bells. Panteg Park picked up 13 points away at Firbank despite only winning the game overall by 9. Aberca picked up their first league win at home with 12 points against Beechwood.

MBA Division 5

Pontymister Welfare (10-4) and Newport Athletic (8-6) keep up their winning starts to lead the way at the top. Belle Vue won against Belle Vue 8-6. Still awaiting Gadiffaith Vs Gilwe result.

GBL Division 1
Croesyceiliog lead the way with a 10-2 win at Chesptow to make it 3 from 3. Pontymister Athletic take 2nd spot after winning 10-2 at Newbridge whilst RTB take 7 at home after drawing with Bedwas.

GBL Division 2
Blaina got back to winning ways away at Bechwood (8-4) to lead the division. Blackwood won 8-4 at home to Crosskeys and Bedwellty Park won at Abergavenny 10-4.

GBL Division 3
Cwmbran, Bailey Park and St. Julians all started their league campaign with 8-2 wins. Croesyceiliog lead the division despite a draw against whiteheads following their win at Cwmbran a few weeks ago.
