W.B.A, M.B.A., G.B.L. and M.B.A. Cup Action Roundup

M.B.A. Cup - Quarter Finals
In a very close match at Crosskeys, the home side held out for a two shot victory over Cwmbran. A similar story at Bedwas where they also held out for a four shot victory over Chepstow. St. Julians made home advantage pay too by beating Abertillery by fifteen while Beaufort won by thirty shots at Brynmawr.

W.B.A. Carruthers Shield - 2nd Round
Eight Monmouthshire teams competed in the second round of the Carruthers and we were bound to lose at least one with a local derby between Brynmawr and Beaufort, Beaufort repeated their success on the same green from the night before to move into round three. They will be joined by R.T.B. Ebbw Vale who won at Lougher, Cwmbran who won at Bridgend and St. Julians who beat Bryn Welfare. Sadly it was the end of the competition for Six Bells, beaten at Harlequins, Whiteheads who lost at Whitchurch and Bedwellty who lost at BSC Landore. Good luck to the remaining four in round three when Beaufort travel to BSC Landore, Cwmbran host R.T.B. Ebbw Vale in another all MBA match and St Julians travel to Whitchurch.

M.B.A. Division 1
A tight match at Machen with the home side winning on three rinks but visitors Blackwood edged the spoils 8-6. Even closer at Bedwas where the home side hung on for a one shot win 9-5 against Pontymister Athletic. Chepstow also won at home 10-4 against Crosskeys. RTB and Beaufort played Sunday after their Carruthers games on Saturday and it was RTB who were too strong at home winning 12-2.

M.B.A. Division 2
Another depleted program here but Croesyceiliog extended their lead scoring a century to beat Blaina 12-2. Newbridge fell just short of a century beating Caldicot 12-2.

M.B.A. Division 3
New Tredegar returned to winning ways beating Pontnewydd by one shot and 10-4. Llanhilleth beat Caerleon at home 12-2.

M.B.A. Division 4
With leaders Whiteheads playing in the Welsh there was an opportunity for the chasing pack to catch them and they did just that with Abercarn going top after winning 11-3 at Firbank, Pontymister Welfare going second after a 13-1 win against Belle Vue and Panteg House going third with a 12-2 win against Ebbw Vale.

M.B.A. Division 5
Panteg Park won the top of the table clash to extend their lead over Ynysddu with a 12-2 win. Standard go third after a 12-2 win over Monmouth.

G.B.L. Division 1
Croesyceiliog stay top after a 10-2 win at Blackwood and Bedwas stay second after winning 12-0 at Pontymister Athletic. Crickhowell go third after beating RTB 12-0. Caldicot moved off the bottom after beating Newbridge 12-0. Abercarn now occupy that spot despite a 8-4 victory over Chepstow.

G.B.L. Division 2
Pontymister Welfare stay top after an exciting drawn match at Belle Vue but winning on two rinks gave them 7 points to Belle Vues 5. Blaina move up to third after beating second place Abertillery 10-2 and Pontypool Park Girlings go fourth after a 10-2 victory over Bedwellty.
